Christianity versus Jainism The after-life Free Essay Example, 1250 words

Some believe heaven and hell have secular locations and others believe heaven and hell concern a persons affiliation with God. Apart from this confusion about the landscape, Christians believe in well-founded ideals that go in tandem to arrive at positive conclusions about the existence of afterlife. Heaven is the abode of people who have strong connections with God and they are full of positive qualities and it is engulfed with brilliant aura of Light, and the place of bliss. Hell is the place for people with negativities, they are not true to God and it is the place for perpetual suffering. Heaven and hell have direct linkage to afterlife. Those who accept Jesus Christ as their savior reach heaven after death and those who do not believe in him land in hell. To attain heaven after life is the ultimate reward for the Christians for which an individual has to lead a morally correct life. The opposite is true about the one being sent to hell. The sins of everyone will be laid open, w hich as Ligon Duncan in his book â€Å"Fear Not! We will write a custom essay sample on Christianity versus Jainism: The after-life or any topic specifically for you Only $17.96 $11.86/pageorder now Death and Afterlife from a Christian Perspective† argues "Is the one thing that scares believers about the Last Day. " (p. 70)Thus belief in afterlife provides strong motivation for the Christians to live noble lives. Duncan further writes â€Å"every Christian should study death and every minister worth his salt wants not only to prepare you for purpose in this life, but wants to prepare you for death, as well. The moment of a Christians death is his passageway into glory and so we must be prepared for that moment whenever it may come. "(p. 21) Death is not the final frontier for a human being, according to Christianity. Russell D. Moore in his article â€Å"A Purpose-Driven Cosmos: Why Jesus Doesnt Promise Us an Afterlife† writes, â€Å"But Jesus doesnt promise an "afterlife. " He promises us life—and that everlasting. Your eternity is no more about looking back to this span of time than your life now is about reflecting on k indergarten. The moment you burst through the mud above your grave, you will begin an exciting new mission—one you couldnt comprehend if someone told you†(2012). This standpoint raises even more questions as for afterlife. C. Purgatory 1. What is this place? Bible is silent on the issue of Purgatory. The canon or Purgatory is not a spiritual theory. In God’s Word the discussion is restricted to Heaven and Hell. Jesus never mentioned about the third place, the intervening location, where the man undertakes further purification.
